Pretty decent analogy. One of the reasons that gets cited most often for why everyone is getting rid of headphone jacks in phones is that they’re in the way of making the phone thinner. There’s no reason phones need to keep getting thinner! It makes heat dissipation worse and the phone more fragile. Of course, it does probably mean that your phone breaks more often meaning you always need to buy a new phone, but people bought new phones all the time, before, and I’m not convinced it will actually increase sales since the price tags are so high now.
They’re fucking up their phones in pursuit of metrics that no one should care. Dog breeding is a pretty apt comparison.
